THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS HOCKEY FESTIVAL
13-16 APRIL 2022

SHANE KIDWELL
HEADMASTER’S WELCOME
Welcome to St Alban’s College and the U16 Independent Schools’ Hockey Festival. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy your time with us as you compete against other like-minded schools.
St Alban’s has a proud sporting tradition dating back to 1963 and hockey continues to be one of our flagship sports. We continue with our festival format for this event, rather than a tournament, to encourage young men who participate, to play competitive hockey in an environment that promotes collegiality, friendship and camaraderie.
We are delighted that many parents have travelled from around the country to join their sons and we sincerely hope that you will enjoy all the capital city has to offer. Please take advantage of our hospitality, relax and enjoy yourselves and take in the surroundings of the city and the campus. Do not hesitate to ask our staff or boys should you have any queries or require any assistance.
The fact that our grounds are in such good shape is a tribute to our Sports Facilities Manager, John Nkuna, who himself played sport at the College while a school boy here over a decade ago. Our thanks also go to Garth Turvey (Director of Sport), and Guy Elliott (Director of Hockey) for their passion and hard work in ensuring that this event is a success.
I trust that this Festival experience will be an enjoyable one! To the players, enjoy the competitiveness on the field and the relationships and friendships you build with players from other schools and, most of all, ensure that you revel in the Festival atmosphere.
Kind regards,
Shane Kidwell
