IT TAKES A VILLAGE – PART 7

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

The success of Journey has always depended on the remarkable contributions of a dedicated community. Over the years, landowners, service providers, staff, and parents have worked together to ensure that every Journey is an unforgettable adventure.

From the beginning, landowners have played a critical role in shaping the Journey route and providing essential stopovers. Rob Buckley, Attie van Niekerk, and Tersia King have generously allowed their land to become a key part of the Journey, both on the route and at its conclusion.

Today, the Journey benefits from the support of landowners such as Ezemvelo Nature Reserve, Mpumalanga Nature Reserve, and Marié Vervey from Izinkwe Lodge, who have continued this tradition of generosity.

Service Providers

Incredible service providers have made specialised activities along the journey route possible. Thys Taljaardt and Janita Doyer have enriched the Journey with thrilling zip-lining and horse-riding experiences, while the team from Advanced Life Support Africa provides critical medical support in remote areas.

School Staff

The commitment of school staff has been extraordinary, with individuals like Frans Seema, John Hunter, Mark Holiday, Mel de Kock, and Gareth Morgan dedicating over 100 days to the Journey. This year’s Journey was further supported by staff members, including Eddy Hall, Carla van der Walt, Ndumiso Mpofu, Bathetwa Mthetwa, Kevin Leathem, Barry de Tert, and Clement Mogantane.

Adventure and Bike Guides

Adventure guides from True Adventures – Gerhard Lamprecht, Jodi Hulley, Greg de Kock, Fran Hunziker, Jodi Fenton, Ray Leveson, and Rob Thomas – brought their expertise to this year’s Journey. Meanwhile, the biking component was supported by Tanaka Ndabambi, Lumko Mntambo, and Cameron Stork, who has also surpassed 100 days of Journey service.

Solo Site Team

The solo site experience was managed by dedicated individuals, including Callan Moore, Natalie de Oliveira, and Father Thabang Bengani, ensuring this critical part of the Journey was safe and impactful.

Parental Support

Parents are the unsung heroes of the Journey. They pack food, organise the postal system, and sponsor essential items such as gifts, fresh produce, and meat. Their contributions ensure the boys are well-nourished and motivated throughout the experience.

Home Support Team

Behind the scenes, a team of staff stays at the College, managing logistics and operations. They assist with bag check-ins, guide food packing, oversee departures and arrivals, and handle various other tasks to ensure the Journey runs smoothly.

Looking Ahead

The Journey’s continued success is a testament to the combined efforts of this incredible community. To everyone who contributes – whether on the route, at the solo sites, or behind the scenes – thank you for your unwavering support and dedication.
