WELCOME, KEARSNEY! #WINTERFIXTURE
20-21 June 2025
SHANE KIDWELL
Dear Parents, staff and boys
It is my pleasure to welcome the staff, parents and boys of Kearsney College to Pretoria. Our schools have interacted extensively over the years but I am most excited that we have agreed to an annual Derby fixture. We are looking forward to interacting today and I would like to invite all our visitors to make themselves feel at home. We are delighted that many parents have travelled to support their sons and we sincerely hope that you will enjoy the peaceful environment of our campus. Please take advantage of our hospitality, relax and enjoy yourselves and do not hesitate to ask our staff should you have any queries or require any assistance. The Anton Murray Pavilion is there to be used at your convenience as is the @thegreyandblue, above the astroturf and Tom Hamilton Wellness Centre, where you can get an early morning cup of coffee from our very own Barista, Lawrence Mthombeni who has established Shorties Coffee on our campus.
Mr Patrick Lees and I will both be attending the International Boys Schools Conference in Boston on this inaugural interaction, but I have no doubt that our staff, who have interacted extensively will ensure a collegial and enjoyable weekend.
My sincere thanks also go to all the staff who accompany and coach these young men, for giving them this wonderful opportunity and for supporting them. We appreciate all you have done to ensure the logistics and appreciate the sacrifices you have made to ensure a derby of this nature is successful.
I would particularly like to thank Garth Turvey our Director of Sport, for his passion and hard work for this event as well as his impeccable organisation which has dealt with complex logistics as we host rugby teams as well as hockey teams on the campus today. The fact that our fields and gardens are in such good shape is a tribute to our Facilities Director, Mr Charl Claasen and our Grounds Manager, Mr John Nkuna, who himself played in these grounds whilst a schoolboy here, over a decade ago. Thank you for your dedication and passion and for the beautiful facilities we are enjoying today 62 years after our founding.
Please enjoy the highveld sunshine, enjoy the collegiality that this day is known for and enjoy the competitiveness on the field and the relationships and friendships you build, and we look forward to connecting with you.
Yours sincerely,
Shane Kidwell
(6th Headmaster, St Alban’s College)
“Enjoy the competition but ensure that rivalry and competition do not become your masters. Play hard but fair, most of all develop friendships and ensure that you live, learn and enjoy your experiences on the field.”
