GARTH TURVEY
DIRECTOR OF SPORT WELCOME
It is a pleasure to welcome the community to the annual Inter-House Athletics Day. This event is one of the year’s sporting highlights, especially as we look forward to discovering who will be crowned the fastest student of 2024. We are also thrilled to celebrate the recent achievement of Phatu (Shaun) Maswanganyi (Class of 2019), who won an Olympic silver medal in Paris a few weeks ago—another remarkable accomplishment by an Old Albanian.
We warmly welcome the boys from Tsebe House to our Inter-House Athletics Day for their debut and are confident that the community will give them the support they deserve.
We are honoured to welcome Rachael Steenkamp, the mother of our Athletics Captain, J-J Steenkamp, who has travelled a long distance to present awards to our top athletes. It is a privilege to have you here – thank you.
Special thanks is extended to Rene Swart and her team for ensuring our facilities remain world-class and to Garron and the catering staff for the excellent food and refreshments. We are grateful to the St Alban’s staff for their efforts in officiating and facilitating today’s events and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
Thank you to Tanaka Ndabambi, our newly appointed Head of Athletics and an Old Boy, for his tremendous effort in coordinating the day’s events. We deeply appreciate your dedication, Tanaka.
As we enjoy the day, let us remember the words of 1 Corinthians 9:24: “Do you not know that in a race, all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” Enjoy the day and support every individual in their quest to do their best.
