THE DR JOHN BOJE CONVERSATIONS

SMART DOESN’T LOOK THE SAME, BUT IT ALWAYS DESERVES TO THRIVE – THE JOHN BOJE CONVERSATIONS

Reimagined as the Dr John Boje Conversations, this series continues the legacy of the annual Dr John Boje Expert Lecture by honouring the remarkable life and influence of Dr John Boje, a St Alban’s College teacher for 36 years and a shining example of lifelong learning. After retiring, he went on to earn not one, but two doctoral degrees; a powerful testament to his determination, curiosity, and love of learning. His story reminds us that growth and discovery have no age limit.
This year’s Conversations will explore the many ways children learn, communicate, and thrive. Learning exists on a spectrum, and while St Alban’s is not a remedial school, we are deeply committed to inclusive practices that ensure the boys in our care are supported, challenged, and celebrated for the unique strengths they bring.
Together with the University of Pretoria and Waterkloof House Preparatory School (WHPS), this event will highlight how inclusive approaches and strong parent-educator partnerships can help every child flourish with confidence and resilience.

MEET THE SPEAKERS:
📌Professor Shakila Dada (Centre for AAC, University of Pretoria) will explore the importance of participation as both a means and an outcome for well-being, drawing on research with children with disabilities, their parents, and young adults who use AAC.
📌Mr Ndumiso Mtshali (Director of Pupil Affairs at WHPS and Old Albanian, Class of 2012) will reflect on how schools can nurture resilience, confidence, and growth in learners.
📌The St Alban’s Academic Support Team, led by Ms Chereen Cloete (Educational Psychologist), will share practical strategies to support diverse learning needs.
